Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to sign up in advance for a class?
No, you do not need to sign up for a class in advance. You can choose to attend a class the minute before it starts if you’d like! Signing up in advance gives you the added benefit of scheduling the class in your calendar and receivinga reminder.
  • Will I receive any reminders about the class?
Yes, if you’ve signed up in advance, you will receive an e-mail reminder about an hour before the class starts. You can also download an iCalendar file which will create an event on your device’s default calendar.
  • Where can I find the weekly class schedule?
On the Class Schedule tab! There is a blue button at the top of the page where you can download a PDF of our current weekly schedule.
  • What is the difference between a meeting-style class and a webinar-style class?
A meeting-style class allows you to turn on your camera and microphone and be seen and heard by the instructor and other participants in the class, which is ideal for hosting more interactive classes. You do not need to turn on your camera and microphone if you do not want to. Your microphone will automatically be muted when you enter the Zoom. Please remember to mute yourself during the class if you are not speaking, to limit background noise. A webinar-style class allows only the instructor to turn on their camera and microphone. All other participants’ screens are not visible.
  • Who has access to these virtual classes?
Only registered MyZakim users have access to our full class schedule. These users are DFCI patients, caregivers, and staff. During the registration process, we verify that the registrant is affiliated with Dana-Farber. Anyone with the Zoom link is able to access our webinar-style classes.
  • What do I need to participate in virtual classes?
A stable internet connection, the Zoom application on your device, and a registered Zakim account if you do not already have one. The Zoom application can be downloaded onto your smartphone, computer, or tablet. Open your computer’s internet browser and go to the Zoom website at https://www.zoom.us/download. You will want to download the Zoom Client for Meetings version. Otherwise, please check the class description for any equipment the class may require.
  • Will my information stay private?
You have the option to turn your camera and microphone on or off during a meeting-style class. Anything you type in the chat may be visible to the instructor and/or participants. We ask that you use only your first name and last initial in the Zoom room. This will help the instructor be aware of who everyone in the room is, and though this is very rare, potentially report/kick out any individuals or bots who should not be there. This Zoom Support link will help point you in the right direction --https://support.zoom.com/hc/en/article?id=zm_kb&sysparm_article=KB00606398.
